Hluvuku-Adsema is an organization located in the Matutuine district of the the provice of Maputo, Mozambique, just south of the capital city, Maputo. The organization’s mission is to promote socioeconomic development in the Matutuine district, providing sustainable services to low income people. This is carried out through three initiatives 1) Male Yeru – Micro finance 2) Machovo – Micro Commerce 3) Khindlimuka – Social work. The umbrella organization, Hluvuku-Adsema, was established in 2001, but was preceded by Male Yeru.
Male Yeru was founded in 1995 with the goal of quickly promoting economic stability and development in a region that was severely effected by the 15 year Mozambican civil war. The organization was initially capitalized by a $29k grant from the Spanish government. Since then Male Yeru and Hluvuku-Adsema have grown to a point where they extended $1.4M in loans in 2008 to 3,248 people (see graphic below).
Hluvuku-Adsema has been a partner with Kiva for the past 30 months, successfully raising $300k to date. Hluvuku-Adsema currently offers its clients a range of loan products and is positioning itself to introduce savings products to the local market in the near future.

Dear Hluvuku-Adsema,
Hello, my name is Abbie Knudsen from Drury University’s Students in Free Enterprise team in Springfield, Missouri, USA. SIFE is a non-profit, collegiate organization focused on promoting economic opportunity through a variety of endeavors. As a team we are constantly looking for projects and opportunities which will empower individuals which we work with, while also equipping them with skills that can improve their overall standard of living. This year we have started a program called Full Circle. The mission of Full Circle is to break the cycle of poverty by empowering artisans through a full circle approach which begins with micro-lending and ends in the marketplace.
In order to accomplish our mission, we envision a process which begins with micro-loans funded by lenders worldwide and ends with those loans being distributed to struggling artisans and entrepreneurs. With these loans artists will be able to create products which will be marketed and sold via the Full Circle website. Ultimately, the Full Circle initiative seeks to educate buyers about meaningful purchases, while also serving as a distribution chain for communities abroad.
Our goal is to serve as a bridge between entrepreneurs and consumers across the globe through the Full Circle website. We also wish to provide an outlet in which any individual can significantly impact artisans through micro-lending. In order to achieve these goals we would like to identify micro-financing institutions which can act on behalf of Full Circle in order to connect with local artisans. We believe that your company aligns with our purpose and we would be interested in fostering a partnership that benefits both parties.
We hope that Full Circle is within the current scope of Hluvuku-Adsema. We look forward to hearing about the needs in your community and how we can better address them together. Please respond with any questions and/or ideas you may have about Full Circle or our mission. Thank you so much for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Abbie Knudsen
